I recently upgraded from 21.04 to 21.10 using the do-release-upgrade
command. One minor nuisance I've encountered is the screen orientation occasionally switching from landscape to portrait when I'm moving the laptop around. In 21.04, I was able to lock the orientation easily using a button in the system menu. This button is absent in 21.10 on the same machine.
Looking for an alternative way to lock the ...
Ubuntu 21.10. My gnome-terminal
opens to a standard 80x24 size window. That's fine.
However, if I maximize the window to the size of my display (1920x1080) and then immediately un-maximize the window, it returns to a 80x23 size window. Then I have to manually reset the window size to 80x24 using the "Advanced" menu in gnome-terminal
.
And, in fact, every time that I maximize/un-maximize the gnome-t ...
I've recently installed Ubuntu 21.10 onto my laptop and my desktop. I've been noticing a weird bug and I need to know if it's just me or not.
After booting( or recovery from hibernation) when I get to the login screen, and try to login into my account, the first login never succeeds. I put the password in correctly, hit login, and I get the spinning wheel thing for an extended period of time.

I normally used a US keyboard and mozc for Japanese input - which worked.
Recently I was (unsuccessfully) experimenting to setup a real Japanese keyboard in Ubuntu 21.10. I changed $HOME/.mozc/ibus_config.textproto
to:
engines {
name : "mozc-jp"
longname : "Mozc"
layout : "ja"
}
After I switched back to my US keyboard, Mozc is still using the Japanese keyboard layout, even af ...
I tried to update nodejs to the current version and it broke the version I had installed, so I ran "sudo apt --fix-broken install" and that did not fix it so then I used sudo apt autoremove nodejs and it said that nodejs had dependencies and that I could not remove it. I am running the latest non-lts release of ubuntu (21.10) This is also a fresh install of ubuntu except for apache2 and visual studio co ...

Running Ubuntu 21.10. Screen flickers when I press any keyboard key or when I use the trackpad. The system is essentially unusable. Same behavior with 20.04 LTS. The interesting thing is that if I boot in recovery mode (in GRUB selecting Advanced Options -> recovery mode) and select Resume, the dis[lay works fine - no flickering - but the system doesn't the keyboard and trackpad, so I have to use a ...

I am playing with theming Ubuntu 20.04 and 21.10 and have not been able to discover how (or if it is possible) to change the background colors for specific dialogs and their buttons generated by gtk3 applications without changing how the apps themselves are themed. I hope this is possible by making some additions to the css files for my theme.
More specifically, some examples: the Delete dialog ...
I want to install ubuntu on my pc and I want to have the new 22.04 version.
Will I be able to upgrade from 21.10 to 22.04 after the release? (Or should I install 22.04 beta now?)
I tried to install Lubuntu 21.10 on btrfs partition. It works, but by default compression is not enabled. Is possible to enable compression in installer, or with some parameters for installer ?
Regards.
Please can somebody post here the sources.list for 21.10 ?
I just upgraded from Ubuntu 21.04 to Ubuntu 21.10.
Baring a few glitches here and there, it's now running ok.
However, I just discovered that Thunderbird 91.x.x removed movemail support! That means that I've lost support for my /var/mail/* mboxes!
Other than installing another mail program, like possibly Evolution
, is there any way to get to my mboxes again?

I am trying to apply a patch to the gtk+3.0 on Ubuntu 21.10 and failing. But more importantly, even without applying the patches, I am unable to build the package.
Here are the steps:

sudo apt-get build-dep "gtk+3.0"
cd gtk+3.0-3.24.40
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -us -uc

I know this is a common problem, hardware is a dell xps 13, read and tried lots of stuff, can not get pulseaudio (sound settings) to recognise earphones for output even though they are paired. In Blueman-manager they are connected but as a "Miscellaneous" device, could that be it, not recognized as an headphone/earphone/output device? Any suggestions on how to debug most welcome. Thx. J

I'm getting an error when running the following command:

I've had a weird behavior since around Kubuntu 20.04 which has persisted to 21.10. What happens is that after I've rebooted the laptop, unlocked the encrypted drive and have entered the login credentials, the laptop immediately suspends. I've got the laptop lid closed and a USB-C USB-hub connected to my keyboard and mouse. I also have external monitors connected through the USB-C ports. The laptop can b ...
I wanted to use daisy chaining to connect two monitors to one usbc thunderbolt port (three monitors in total).
In principle it works, but I can only get the second monitor in the chain to mirror the first and not extend it. Neither gnome, nor nvidia-settings recognizes the second display in the chain.
The monitors are all Dell UltraSharp 27, the MST option is activated on both monitors, the error oc ...

Since upgrading to 21.10, I've been having two issues in the dock.
- Sometimes, the system won't let me add certain apps to favorites. The option does not appear when right clicking the icon. This seems to be random, though. Meaning, in another session, I might be able to do it.
- Some apps in favorites duplicate in the dock when I open them. The new icon appear below favorites.

I have a custom shortcut for maximize window: <Super><Ctrl><Up>
).
Since Ubuntu 21.10 this doesn't work anymore.
Instead it is showing me the overview.
Assigning a different shortcut seems to work.
This did work in Ubuntu 20.04 - I also have used Wayland before.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

Occasionally, when I try to sign in on Kubuntu 21.10, the login screen will no register keypresses or mouse clicks. I can still move the cursor around the screen, but cannot interact with the password entry field or any of the onscreen buttons, e.g. shut down or reboot. Audio is extremely distorted in Ubuntu Studio 21.10 using JACK on my Lenovo Thinkpad P15v Gen 2, using the built-in Intel Tiger Lake audio hardware.
It appears that all sound on the system is affected; LMMS, Hydrogen, Spotify, and even system sound effects (e.g. the 'blip' sound when adjusting volume) are all hyper-amplified into squelchy static.
Some apps, such as Spotify, become less distorted as I r ...

I was facing random freezes on previous versions of Ubuntu(16/18 LTS) and few months ago I tried non-LTS 21.10. Since then my troubles disappeared miraculously..until one of recent upgrades. In case of HW bug suspicion, I have Windows 10 in dual boot and it works fine for 2years already. GUI including cursor doesn't response. Can anyone say what package could possibly cause that regression or how to fin ...

A strange problem. Wifi only seems to work, when I boot Ubuntu with the ethernet cable plugged in. When the cable is not plugged in, Ubuntu behaves like there is no physical Wifi card/module.
This boot-with-ethernet-cable procedure doesn't work, when the cable isn't connected to a router/network on the other end.
After booting, the ethernet cable can be unplugged and Wifi continues to work just fine ...
Ever since the 21.10 Upgrade, all windows no longer snap to one another as you're resizing them. They only snap to the sides of your desktop. How do I get the original functionality back? Maybe a config setting got changed, or a package was removed?
Old Window Snapping in 21.04:

I posted a similar question but I'm trying to expand it because I have now tried both versions and still can't seem to get anything to work. I've looked through about 20 different pages and have tried a host of different suggestions but still can't seem to get this to work. I'm very new to linux and not nearly as technically inclined as a lot of you in the community. Any help would be appreciated.
