Just loaded up Ubuntu 20.04 on this laptop. Everything's working perfectly, except for brightness control.
I've been following all the advice I can over at this thread: Legion 5 pro brightness control doesn't work on ubuntu 20.04 with nvidia driver 460
...but, nothing works for me. I haven't been able to find a single mention of a solution for the specific model I have anywhere on the internet. Again ...
The slider on top right for brightness does not work but volume and microphone sliders do work. As a temporary workaround, xrandr
can set brightness and a shell script is about as convenient as using the slider. The script is below and should be used as ./brightness.sh 0.5
where 0.5 is the brightness you want to set it to. 1 is maximum and 0 is minimum.
#!/bin/bash
# Sets brightness on scale of 0 to 1

I have MacBookAir 3,2 (2010) that works surprisingly well with Ubuntu 21.04 (GNOME), when its NVidia driver is correctly enabled.
The problem comes when controlling the screen brightness. The default hotkeys work, xbacklight and nvidia-settings -a BacklightBrightness=## both work, but the brightness setting set through any of these means does not persist between reboots or shutdowns.

I wrote a script that lets me toggle my laptop screen's brightness (I run if from a hotkey bound by xbindkeys
),
but it involves writing to /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
.
For now, I've just been making it able to write to that file by doing
sudo chown $USER: /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
but that resets after every time I reboot the laptop,
so I need to rerun it before I can ...

I have connected an external touch to my mini pc. DDCCI module seems to work for me.

I've got a TeckNet mechanical keyboard with LED backlights, when I had the keyboard plugged into Windows, I was able to hold the function key down and turn the lights off, on, rotating etc. Also change the brightness.

When I plug in or disconnect my charger from my laptop (Acer Inspire 7 N19C5), running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, the brightness changes. I would like the brightness to stay the same when the power is connected or disconnected.
I read that changing this to false: org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power idle-dim
to false
might help, but it's already set to false as I get this:

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 a couple weeks ago on my Matebook D14 with a Ryzen 5 and I realized that every time I turn on my laptop my brightness slider is set on the lowest brightness setting, but my display is on the highest brightness possible.

After a few days away from Linux, I now realise I'm suddenly unable to adjust the brightness, both via the Fn keys on my laptop as well as by changing brightness in the Energy Savings settings screen.

I know I'm not the only one running into this issue. I have been following a lot of instructions on several posts here and elsewhere. I will sum up what I have tried to fix this.

I’ve looked at a bunch of the existing questions about black screen and I don’t think this is a duplicate.
I have Ubuntu 18.04 installed on a Lenovo P52 ThinkPad.
I followed the instructions in this article to try to fix the screen brightness adjustment (which wasn’t working at all). Running ls /sys/class/backlight

Any ways to fix the system settings? I'm ...
I'm familiar with
xrandr --output Monitor_name --brightness 0.6
for adjusting screen brightness in graphical environments.
Is there a similar tool to adjust brightness for ubuntu server's console?
Thanks.
I received my new laptop with Ubuntu 21.04 on it, Nvidia 3070 GPU and Ryzen 9 5000 series CPU (with internal GPU). Running kernel 5.11.0-25-generic. Gnome tries to render most things using the Ryzen GPU.
For some reason i am unable to change the brightness of the laptop screen. I do see the following backlight device /sys/class/backlight/amdgpu_bl0/
which changes to /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_0/
I am not able to increase or decrease the brightness level of my device. Even if i change the brightness level from the settings the brightness level doesn't change. I even tried the hot keys. They show the level of brightness chamging but the brightest and the dimmest is the same.
I have tried all relevant Settings choices, including "xset s off; xset s noblank; xset -dpms; xrandr --output HDMI-1 --brightness 1.0" as ordinary user and root, but the screen still dims itself occasionally at random. How can I permanently turn OFF screen dimming?
There must be some code in the Ubuntu installation to do this!
Maybe something in /etc?
So basically I want this command to run whenever I log in.
The command is
xrandr --output HDMI-A-0 --brightness 0.90 --gamma 1.05:1.00:0.95
