I have a Dell Vostro 3590.
From my observations, individual cores do boost all the way to 4.9 GHz and when under a multicore task(like video encoding on handbrake), the frequency it stabilises at after a few minutes is 2.6-2.7 GHz after throttling on Windows. The problem I see in ...

Is there an easy way to limit my max CPU fan speed, without affecting the fan itself on lower loads?
Preferably a tool with a GUI, or a CLI but without digging into multiple config files that could affect the whole system.

2 processes, call it A and B
A has high priority,B has low priority
I want to limit total cpu usage of these 2 processes under 80%
Sometimes A has nothing to do,cpu usage is 0%, at this time, I hope B execute and take up 80% cpu
Sometimes A is working, cpu usage is 80%, at this time, I hope B do nothing and not use cpu(or use only a little, 1%)
Sometimes A take up 30% cpu, at this time, B should ...
Three days ago I started noticing my CPU fan loudly winding up and down when idling (with which I mean not running any particular program). I checked the CPU temperature which was and still is fluctuating between 50°C and 60°C. I also have Windows 10 installed as a dual boot where the CPU temperature readings still are about 40°C and the fans are quiet.

We see in Debian BullSeye cpu clock to 1800Mhz. Is it possible to do this in ubuntu server. Do we need overvoltage?

My i5-11600K CPU is using the intel_pstate frequency scaling.
By default, the driver is in "active" mode and will throttle up ALL 6 physical cores, even if there is only work for one core.
To fix this, I do:
# echo "passive" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/status
But after a reboot, that setting is gone again.
How can I permanently set intel_pstate mode to passive
?
Recently I've upgraded my AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU to AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. psensor used to show the CPU temperature properly with the 2600, but after the upgrade, all I see is "temp1 0 degrees" (image). Other temperatures (GPU, SSD etc.) shows properly. I've un/reinstalled psensor but it didn't work. Is there a fix to that?
PS: I've also updated my BIOS version during the CPU upgrade if it is related.

I have Kubuntu 21.10 installed on an HP laptop with a core i5 11th generation. The problem is that battery drains faster than it should. After investigating the issue it turned out to be the CPU not downclocking at idle causing power waste. I tried changing CPU scaling governor, setting maximum frequency manually but the CPU seems to be ignoring all of this and sticking to 1.6GHz+ frequencies no matter ...
Intel Alder Lake has a new power + efficiency core architecture. As I understand it, the Linux Kernel does not currently support it.
Could I still run Ubuntu LTS on this hardware. What would the implications be? Would the OS treat all cores the same or would the efficiency cores sit idle?

I have a HBA attached in a 8x pci slot, however, it is showing as x4 (downgraded). In addition, it seems to be disabled. I assume these things are not normal and the reason my setup is not working. Trying to troubleshoot the cause and get the HBA card working with my JBOD Enclosure. Currently, the SAS cables are coming up as fault, and im assuming the HBA is to blame.

I bought a new computer a few months ago. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 and it's working fine except when I compile c++ code: it freezes hard as soon as there is a spike of high CPU usage (10+ cores).
The only working workaround is to compile with -j8
. Going -j10
or above will make the system crash most of the time. -j16
crashes 100% of the time with big projects (and no ccache).

On Ubuntu 20.04 I'm using the AWS CLI to send backup data from my web server to S3. While the script works, it consumes CPU usage to the point where other services begin to fail. This becomes a big problem when a website isn't accessible for up to 1hr while the script sends data.

Problem :
A few months ago, I got a new MSI gaming laptop (GP76 Leopard w/Intel Core i7-10870H and Nvidia RTX 3070).
However, since the very beginning, I've been experiencing a very annoying behaviour : the CPU goes crazy too often, hence the fans, and for no good reason.
Workaround :
I worked around this problem by simply disabling Intel Turbo Boost :

I would like to ask a question: Due to my job I often use many programs together and sometimes my computer freezes, sometimes I can really feel its pain. This often happens when I both use Skype (video calls) and IntelliJ or Virtual Machine is on.
How can I understand if this is due by CPU or RAM (or maybe something else)?
Thank you for your help.

Last Saturday night, I upgraded from Ubuntu 20.04 to 21.10. In reviewing my logs, I've noticed that immediately upon my upgrade, and lasting since, my PC's CPU temp baseline has jumped 15-20°.
