I am new to linux in general so i don't really know how to deal with this.I'm using a GTX 750ti as a GPU. Using the x.org.x drivers, it worked to add the 1080p resolution but those drivers are not for me because i want to game on this. I'm using Ubuntu on a laptop (with its built-in screen disabled) connected to a 3840x2160 external display.

Before sharing my screen on a video chat, I always like to switch the resolution down to 1920x1080.

I want to be able to quickly toggle the resolution of my external display between 3840x2160 and 1920x1080 via a keyboard shortcut, such as SuperPrntScrn.

I have installed VirtualBox 6.1.28 r147628 (Qt5.6.2) where:

  • The Host is Windows 7
  • The Guest is Ubuntu Desktop 20.04

The Guest Additions was installed through the .iso file. Therefore is possible:

  • Share directories copy/paste between the Host and Guest
  • Copy/paste between the Host and Guest

External monitor - xrandr resolution doesn't work and problem with refresh rate

I'm facing problem with xrandr to set new resolution and refresh rate. I only have the resolution 2560x1440 with refresh rate 33 mhz, if I try to increase the refresh rate I got the error below:

Second screen is zoomed in

I'm having trouble with a second screen on my laptop.

So I found a TV screen somewhere (Samsung) and tried plugging it into my laptop, it does work (as in I get an image) the only problem is that it is zoomed in to far. Per monitor scaling on Wayland GNOME

I need to set per monitor scaling in Gnome Wayland. I followed instructions and set /com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor to {'XWAYLAND0': 8, 'XWAYLAND1': 4}. The object keys are the display keys from xrandr log. The XWAYLAND0 is laptop display and XWAYLAND1 is external monitor. I just want to scale down the external monitor. This seems to do nothing. Any tips?

Parts of the screen not visible in any resolution and 1080P resolution not available

This is on a freshly installed Ubuntu 21.10, after installing the OS, I've used Software & Updates program to install NVIDIA drivers 470.

After rebooting, I'm unable to see all the parts of the screen on any resolution, and monitor's maximum resolution 1080p is not available in display settings and in NVIDIA control panel.

I have a monitor. The hardware can support 1024x768 at 85Hz. But don't know why my lubuntu system does not detect this highest refresh rate for the resolution mentioned above.

Blurry/Pixelated fonts after changing screen's scaling size to 125% on ubuntu wayland

I wanted to play wine games that only worked in Wayland so I started a new session and when I set the resolution to 125% I ended up with some completely disgusting text fonts that didn't look like nothing at all if you will allow me. DP-1: 1920x1080 (hd, secondary)

eDP-1: 3840x2160 (4k, main)

My problem:

I want to set my 4k monitor to 200% scaling @ 3840x2160, and my HD monitor to 100% scaling @ 1920x1080

I have a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro which has an aspect ratio of 2560 x 1600 (16:10) and my fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 only provides one resolution. The icons are too small, fonts are too small, everything is too small.

How to automatically change laptop's scaling factor when external display is (dis)connected?

When I connect to my external monitor, the scaling factor I prefer is 1x but when I'm working only on my monitor's display, I prefer 1.10x.

Is there a way in which I can automate the process of changing this scaling factor in gnome-tweaks such that it switches to 1.10x scaling factor whenever I connect my laptop to another monitor using HDMI?

I have a monitor and a TV I use sometimes. The monitor is 4k, used at 2560x1440 resolution - except when the TV is connected I need to manually reduce the resolution to 1080, and then manually set it back to 1440 after disconnecting the TV.
