This hides output from the first command, and prints Oops
to stderr if it fails. So far, so good.
#!/usr/bin/env bash
invalid_command > /dev/null 2>&1 || >&2 echo "Oops"

That outputs this:
Oops
hi
But I need to exit as well as printing a message if the first command failed. So I tried using parenthesis.

I am currently on Ubuntu 20.04, but writing this from my phone.
I am unable to open the terminal, settings, ... I have been searching for hours, nothing worked.
Everytime I run an app, it loads but does not open. I am frustrated.
I tried installing all recommended packages and it did not work after rebooting.
I downloaded the latest ubuntu from the site and also the rufus. When I choose the iso file, rufus showed me truncated iso error. Plz help It told me to re download the file.

I'm new to Linux and i chose Ubuntu because its the most stable Linux out there however whenever i try to install wine HQ i get this error

I'd like to be able to conditionally run a different command if somecommand
fails. Here's what I tried:

But that didn't work (the grep

Since 2017, I've had my laptop setup to dual boot windows 7 (from the internal drive) and Ubuntu (the default; from an external drive), in those 4 years it's been fine and there's been no change to the hardware or install. Out of the blue, yesterday, after being idle for a couple hours, I noticed that the screen was frozen. I rebooted and the following is displayed:
error: no such device 6c1b9... error ...
I made some changes in alsamixer after that list of input and output devices were empty in settings. I tried rebooting and re-installing alsamixer but none the methods worked for me. Earlier I was able to see something like digit-analog and s/pdif along with my speakers but now the list in empty.
I tried using alsactl restore
and alsactl store
but nothing happened.
Every time I boot up my desktop, (Ubuntu Mate 20.04) regardless of the system I have it in, I get a message that says "System Program Problem Detected" ok cool, what problem? unlike other Ubuntu warnings I have seen in the past, this message box doesn't have an option for further details. I've looked through dmesg, and haven't seen any errors. in /var/log I see a variety of logs I could look at, syslog ...

I am running Ubuntu Studio 20.04.3 LTS with xfce, a fresh install since yesterday, and on every startup I get a "system program error detected" notification. There is one file in /var/crash named _usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash but when i try to open or remove this file i get a 'permission denied' message, as such:

I have to copy wordpress from the give path to htcdocs directory :-/var/www/html/wordpress and I have to copy this wordpress to /opt/lampp/htcdocs . Direct copy paste is not allowed. I tried different commands and ended up with errors

I am just a beginner at bash scripting. I tried to save output from the command "which" into a variable and printing it but the variable shows nothing. This is the code which I tried:

Output:

Also this works when I run it in terminal.
