An Ubuntu (21.10) PC is shared among a number of users, most of whom are not administrators. They are not allowed to install/remove/update software or directly alter system files, nevertheless all of them should be able to do anything with printers (manage print queues, remove printers, add new printers etc) i.e. enjoy full admin rights in the printing section of the settings window. How can this possib ...

I recently migrated to Ubuntu 20.04 and my Canon Pixma TR7620 printer has stopped working (previous distro was Debian 11; too much for me, but at least the printer worked).

sudo apt-get update
AND

The system is Xubuntu 20.04.3.
The Printer/Scanner is HP All In One 3790.
The software is HPLIP 3.20.6 and it has been downloaded and installed manually from the HP site.
The problem is that all the pages that are printed, either text or images, are all displaced upwards so that if the document is text for example, the first line is always printed outside the paper top boundary and therefore not p ...

I just scanned a page using the Ubuntu standard Scan-app and a Canon LiDE 110 and saved it as a .png and .pdf.
I have a Brother HL-L2340D printer that is working fine with GIMP, Xed etc. It will not print the scanned document in either .pdf or .png format. I have checked Permissions and the sole User has Read/Write including group. The Owner is the sole User.
I loaded it i ...
I just installed a printer utility which enables me to check ink levels. The deb file came directly from Epson's download page, and Ubuntu handled the installation smoothly. But I can't find the utility! It's not crucial because I can still print. Where does stuff like this vanish to? It's not in the "Show Applications" list. When I ran Windows, the utility would pop up when ink was low, but it could al ...

I need to set a specific username for printing (network printer at work).
In Kubuntu 16.04, I used to be able to set it using the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631 (via Administration, Manage Printers, Set Default Options, Job Log, UserId). However, in Kubuntu 20.04, it is not working.

I use Libre Office software to type university pamphlets, but the point I noticed is that after taking the PDF output from the final text, it is not possible to search for the word <لا>, but if we move the letters ا and ل, it means to Searching for the word <ال> instead of the word لا displays it. (Of course, it does the search correctly in the ODT file).
This is used in a lot ...
I'm using cups to send PDF files from PHP to the printing server. This goes well for a label printer but the actual laser printer has some issues. Sometimes it prints the PDF fine but sadly the other times it decides to spew out blank pages until it has no pages left.
I sadly have no clue how to resolve this as I can't replicate it 100% of the time and it seems to occur randomly.
OS: Ubuntu 21.10
I've been looking for days, but have been unable to find anything on how to restore or reinstall Print Service. I'm using Kubuntu 20.04 which the Prints--System Settings Module is now saying the Print Service is unavailable (dead) and a "bad file descriptor". I've only been able to find items that are written for other programmers rather than for a simple user, except one on YouTube that doesn't work as ...

Someone gave me this computer with UBUNTU 20.04 operating system. I'm used to just plugging in the USB from the printer and being ready to print. This computer recognizes the printer and the computer will say its printing and print complete but nothing is printed. There is no download on Canon's website for this printer. I don't know what to do to make this thing work, help!!
I am trying to add a CUPS printer via settings/printers. After clicking "Add..." the printer isn't listed until hostname is given. Then selecting the printer results in this error: "Failed to add new printer.". I don't know how to investigate this.
Printer is configured on a raspberry pi CUPS service and test works fine on the device. However, I can't add the printer to the system. Any ideas?

I am running a command like this: command > output.txt

Any help on how to make output.txt

Printing and scanning problem on HP DeskJet 2700
I want to print line numbers from gedit, I know how to view them, of course. A previous answer to a question some years ago claimed that the option existed. But on my machine that option seems to have vanished: there is no top bar, no file tab etc. And why is it called 'text editor' rather than 'gedit'? I'm using 20.04.
If there were options then presumably I could also get it to show syntax colo ...
When I attempt to save an email as a pdf in Chromium, using the print dialog, I get a screen full of boxes instead of font characters when the system "save as" dialog appears. The dialog does not function at all to actually save anything, but does go away when you hit the cancel key or the place on the dialog where cancel should be. This behavior happens in any file save dialog in Chromium, such as rig ...

On ubuntu mate 18.04 I used to send data in hexadecimal representation into a usb thermal printer with this command:

I upgraded to ubuntu mate 20.04 and realized, that the lpx file (belonging to the printer) does not appear in the /dev/usb folder, like on ubuntu mate 18.04. I have googled a little bit and found, that
dmesg | grep usblp

The voluntary association I am trying to help had the local authorities to install Ubuntu 20.04 on four desktops on Ethernet.
The MFP printers were installed automatically and print okay, but scanning from PC only works from flatbed, even if you order it to use the Document Feeder.
The social authorities should service Ubuntu, but we don't have much hope that they will use the time it takes to solve ...
I am a total Newbie with Ubuntu 20.04. My printer is printing o.k. from pfs, web pages, etc. But with docs, Libreoffice it will not print at all, and with docs OnlyOffice it will only 'print to file'. Cannot change the print dialog box.

I would like to know how to print the current brightness and gamma values using xrandr.
I have seen many posts on how to change those values and I can do that but none of the ones I've seen deal with printing the current values of said parameters.
I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and xrandr v.1.5.0
Thanks in advance!
