I am running Ubuntu 20.04 on my Asus Vivobook X512FL and it has a embedded fingerprint scanner on the touchpad and it works fine with windows 10 but it is not detected in ubuntu

My Brother "all in one" scanner-printer-copier was working fine for months with ubuntu 20.04 via USB cable. I can still use the laser printer, but the first time I try to start a scan, it makes scanner noises for a few seconds and then the scanner program (xsane, gscan2pdf, or simplescan) says
sane_start: Invalid argument
On second and succeeding attempts I get

- HPLIP ver. 3.21.8
hp-scan gives gray picture up to 300 dpi with no problems.
However, in color mode "hp-scan -m color" it gives the following error:

Scanning...
error: SANE: Error during device I/O (code=9)

Doesn't matter if USB or Network connection.

When I try to scan using Xsane, I get an error message "Failed to start scanner: invalid argument".

My fresh installed GScan2PDF fails with Error msg (Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS) gscan2pdf: "must open device before starting scan" I use the scan feature of a HP OfficeJet Pro 6970. It worked fine under Ubuntu 18.04.

I've installed SANE. Made sure I'm all up to date with everything

I've just got a HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2336 All-in-One Printer.
And turns out, they don't have support for any Linux system. I'm on Ubuntu20.04LTS.
I checked on: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/hplip-web/plugin.html. It was all empty.
Although the printer is working, I can't scan any documents. Can anyone help me with this?

While I seem to get almost daily system updates, I have lost the ability to manually open the UBUNTU software store, (using the embedded app). The app opens and I can use the search box, all software store options do nothing but show the "busy" circle for over 30 minutes. Ubuntu 21.4 Scanner (multi function Samsung) only works after computer reboot. After scanning (following the reboot) the scanner fails to work again without another reboot of the computer. USB connected and printing works well.

I set up Ubuntu 21.04 and installed a Samsung 2675 FN printer/scanner that was working on other Ubuntu machines.
I installed the approprate Samsung driver, added the printer and it prints fine.

Ubuntu 18.04.05, fully updated as of 4th July 2021. Scanning from Canon TS5150 multifunction. Connection via USB.
When scanning from Xsane 0.99, both preview and final scan are greyscale. Canon scangearmp2 installed from Canon website.
The printer function of the same machine works OK.

I installed scanner software for a wireless Lexmark multifunction printer. I call up simple scan and it asks for a valid IP address/host name. How do I do that? I have restarted the computer and unplugged and replugged the router.
I wish to scan multiple pages with my HP ENVY scanner, it does not have a page feeder. I don't mind where the files are created or what name and type they are, I'll convert them to a single pdf file after scanning. Have tried:-
scanimage --batch --batch-prompt --resolution 150
And various other permutations but get scanimage: sane_start: Invalid argument
all the time.
Any advice would be welcome
