I read several past entries about "focus follows mouse" in these pages, but I could not find an answer that helped me. Many answers are for older versions, and others are for Ubuntu flavors other than Mate. These previous answers list tools and programs to do this which I could not find in Ubuntu-Mate menus.
In had expected to be able to do this using Mate Tweak, but it does not even mention mo ...
I'm trying to make a digital frame software with pygame and python, and want the app to run at the startup of the machine when you can see the taskbar and the system is ready to load windows.
I've tried nearly 6 ways of doing this during the last week, but none worked. I am already tired, and I would like someone to tell me how should I do it.
So.... HOW DO I DO THAT!!!!!????
Inspired from this topic I dare ask this probably impossible question:
I have 4 different users on my Ubuntu-MATE 21.04 machine. Sometimes it would be nice to see user2 on the display of user1, either in a Window (some sort of exported X-Window, rlogin,...) or even better, one of those 4 Workspace Panels:
So like Panel 1-3 for user 1, Panel 4 for user 2.
(I am aware that I can do sudo - …

up to now; I installed icons and themes for ubuntu-mate (LTS20.04) through gnome-look.org with the help of ocs-url. Now it does not work...
I have ocs-url installed, I choose an icon, press "install", choose the file from the drop-down menu, then "install" again - and nothing happens - no questioning to continue...

Is there a key combination to enter and exit fullscreen view in virt-manager, while a virtual machine is running, and its window open?
Obviously I can enter or exit using mouse:
To enter: Click View
> Fullscreen
To exit: Hover mouse at the top-center, and click Leave fullscreen
icon.
I have tried key combinations from this AskUbuntu thread: How do I unmaximize full screen view in virt-manager?
I am running Ubuntu Mate 18.04, recently updated. When I have Spotify playing in my browser (happens either with Firefox or Google Chrome), and I switch to tty1 to work, the music plays 10 or 20 seconds then stops. It automatically starts again when I come back to tty7. It appears the OS decides it doesn't need to run anything graphical while in another tty. The problem also happens with YouTube.
So recently, I decided to head back to Ubuntu MATE from Ubuntu, and so far pretty good. I upgraded from 20.10 because it reached it's end of life.. but after I did that I experienced some problems.
For example, Bluetooth doesn't work (it works with Raspberry Pi OS, RetroPie, and Windows 11), but Ubuntu-based distributions fail. (It seemed to work in 20.10 however...) Whenever I try to enable it ...
I have some question:-
01. Which Ubuntu version should I choose for Web Development?
My Laptop Specification:-
- Model: HP 15-da0021tu
- Intel Celeron N4000 (1.1 GHz base frequency up to 2.6 GHz)
- 4 GB DDR4 Ram
- 128GB SSD
02. Can I use same software which I can use in Ubuntu? (I am a regular ubuntu user)
Thanks in advance.
I noticed that Software updater often takes multiple tries.
It usually says it can not download files even though my internet is fine. It looks like it only partially downloads file on the first try.
I have a wired connection.
Is there fix for it?

I am running Ubuntu from fully installed USB stick, but sometime key "~" gets auto pressed or something and it keep typing "~" in terminal, this problem is still occurring even after disabling kep ("~" key code 49) with xmodmap. experienced same problem with Ubuntu-mate too.
I archived a lot of files and folders into a .img file... it is a disk image I made using dd and rsync. I then made an .iso file from the .img file (using ImgBurn in Windows 10).
Now I want to compare the contents of each to be sure the iso file contains all the same files that are in the .img file. For this I am using Meld in Ubuntu mate. When I double click on the .img file it mounts in the /me ...

While visiting repositories on https://github.com/mate-desktop I see that many MATE components are released at version 1.26. And ArchLinux AUR says the same.

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 Mate 32-bit. Sometimes when I add a program shortcut to the quick launch section of the top bar, it will be gone after a restart. I hope to bypass that by manually editing the respective configuration file. I am rather new to Linux and do not want to simply edit some file by my own choice. So can you tell me which is the correct file to edit?

Though I have gone through quite a few threads on AskUbuntu, I couldn't find a proper way to disable these Evolution services, especially when Evolution is purged from the system already, in Ubuntu MATE 21.04.
These services are not listed under systemctl list-unit-files --type=service
, so I can't use sudo systemctl mask

I was trying to replace spaces with tabs, but only at the beginning of a line. I could find spaces, and could find tabs, and even combinations of spaces and tabs. I am on an unfortunate text adventure getting to run VirtualBox 6.1.22 under Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS. My key problem is, that I had to upgrade my (shiny new) machine to Kernel 12.4 (shiny new graphics card and other hardware requiring a higher kernel...)

I followed the official Virtual Box instructions (adding to sources.list, adding key) and manage ...
Recently installed MATE on Ubuntu Hirsute. By default, the notification applet contains a time indicator. I'm using the own time applet which is more powerful (supports timezones, supports displaying seconds. However, I cannot get rid of the clock in the notification bar. Which, frankly, has really nothing to do with notifications anyways so I don't know why it's in there in the first place.

I want to create a hotkey combination to toggle on/off the window border of an individual window using Compiz in Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS.
Using CCSM I've mapped Super+N to toggle window negative, Super+F to make a window fullscreen or Super+A to make a window always on the top.
I'd like to known if there's a way to toggle on/off the decorations of a window by hitting a hotkey like Super+B.
