Risks of enabling nginx upstream keepalive

Using nginx as HTTP reverse proxy for Apache with PHP backend (I need .htaccess flexibility for webmasters). Seeing http/1.0 used in Apache logs made me look up on how to enable keep-alive connection.

Upon my search I found this blog post from Nginx https://www.nginx.com/blog/avoiding-top-10-nginx-configuration-mistakes/#no-keepalives

By default, NGINX opens a new connection to an upstream (backend) ser ...

Matrix synapse federation not possible
cn flag

I successfully set up my homeserver based on the description available in https://linuxhandbook.com/install-matrix-synapse-docker/ using a docker image.

I had to change it a little bit, as I am using Apache as a reverse proxy. This I made from another example:

<VirtualHost *:443>
    SSLEngine on
    ServerName matrix.oe8bck.at

    Include /etc/letsencrypt/options-ssl-apache.conf

Is it possible to lock sudo from the command line, without editing sudoers or logging out and back in?
no flag

When you run sudo it won't ask a password for at least 5 minutes after you last ran it. You can change this timeout by adding Defaults timestamp_timeout=0 to sudoers with sudo visudo. This also instantly locks it.

My question is if there is a way to do it just once, and without visudo.

Using graphical applications on both vnc :1 and main display :0

I start /usr/bin/Xvnc :1 a gnome window manager of centos on boot, via systemctl script, as I sometimes like to connect to my machine via a different box.

When I first installed and started slack, it was via vnc .. now when I login directly to the box, and using it's main :0 display, I cannot start slack by clicking on Gnome->Applications->Internet->Slack - well I can, but it starts and rem ...

how to migrate existing profiles to new domain
cl flag

We had our Server 2019 RAID fail and we had to rebuild it from scratch. This has now been completed and we're finding another issue - we now have to migrate users to this new domain w/o having them setup a new profile on their computers.

I've read through How to join Domain and convert local user profile in the new AD user profile? however that is mainly focused on converting a local account to a  ...

php config - generate hashed password manually
ke flag

I've created a php conf file, which include some user / password infos. For testing purposes I've added the password for the database in plain text. Since this can't be a good idea, I want to change that plain password into a hashed password.

Is that possible and if so, how can I achieve that?

Do I have to update the MariaDB database as well when changing the php conf and using a hashed password?

Charmed Openstack linux bridge instead of OVS bridge
in flag

I did install the charmed openstack reading the documentation provided at docs.openstack.org. However, i made a mistake, configured the bridges as linux bridge instead of OVS bridge on MAAS to compute nodes. What are the consequences of using linux bridge instead of OVS bridge? Curious about what wouldn't work properly

Thx.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
