Our server did not react to pings anymore since around 23:49 yesterday until we restarted it at 7:09 am today. These are the last things we saw in the syslog:

Router Port Forwarded Socks5 Server Doesn't Work
us flag

So, I have a remote ubuntu server running, and I decided to setup a Socks5 server on it for fun. I used the following command to port forward it ssh -D 1080 ubuntu@<ip_address>, and that works just fine, but after using that for a while, I got tired of doing the command, everytime I want to use the proxy. So, i tried port forwarding my Socks5 server through the server's router. Here are my conf ...

Server Move From Rackspace to AWS Cloud

I'm wondering specifically is there way to migrate Centos6.3 server from Rackspace to AWS cloud, Server image is 268.92 GB Uncompressed.

I've done the sync processes before and it didn't work so I wanted to spin up the exact same instance. I also tried the newer libraries of the platform we are running but it failed.

Existence of switch disturbs network: cable is fine straight to laptop but not through a switch

This will be a bit complicated to read, but I hope it will be clear. English is not my first language, sorry.

In our school we have an HP 2530-24G switch connected to an unmanaged tp-link tl-sf1005d switch. We'll call the latter Switch 6. From this switch, the network is expanded through similar unmanaged switches to two directions: each branch goes through classrooms. A PC in a room is connected ...

PowerDNS & Log4j

I'm running a PowerDNS on Linux. It looks like PowerDNS is vulnerable to the new log4j-exploit. Is there any way I can disable the Log4j? From my research it looks like you can change the logging method to syslog, but I'm not quite sure on how to do that.

OpenLDAP/ds-389 Secure Hardening Guide

I am in the process of setting up an Open Ldap Server (ds-389) however, I cannot find many good resources which define a security or hardening guide which can be applied to the configuration or schema of the directory.

Does anyone have any good links or references that discuss how we can appropriately harden an Open Ldap server configuration?

I found a few references, and an old CIS bench mark, but  ...

Gluster mount keeps crashing

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
