Workaround for Windows Search/Indexing on a deduplicated volume
th flag

According to Microsoft, Microsoft Windows Server 2019 still does not support Windows Search on Data Deduplication enabled volumes (source):

Windows Search doesn't support Data Deduplication. Data Deduplication uses reparse points, which Windows Search can't index, so Windows Search skips all deduplicated files, excluding them from the index. As a result, search results might be incomplete for dedupl ...

On Windows how to restrict access to a Self-Encrypting-Disk partitiion to a specific service
cy flag

I am setting up a server in an industrial environment that will have a service that injects security assets into a PCB. I want the server to store these assets on a self encrypting disk where one encrypted partition can only be accessed by the injection service. I want the SED keys to be sealed to the service by a TPM. Any suggestions on how to set this up or where to look for answers?

how to check whether the system time is synchronized to NTP server without knowing the NTP client used in the product? I'm developing an application that is expected to run in both containers or standalone systems. Need to push backups across two WANs to maximize off-site backup upload speed
cn flag

Introduction and Background
The local ISPs in my company's neighbourhood only offer 125Mbps maximum upload per WAN connection because fibre has not yet been implmented. We have more than 1TiB of essential data to push to an off site location- preferably within a one day period. Our off-site location has approximately 300Mbps download speed.

We have two WAN connections, one for WiFi, one for the server n ...

Different routes in VPN
pk flag

I have the following setup:

  • 1 VPS with public IP 222 running Wordpress
  • 1 VPS with public IP 444 running OpenVPN server

The login pages of the Webserver are restricted to requests from 444 using ufw to prevent any bruteforce attempts. To setup the VPN server I used the following script: https://github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install It forwards all VPN traffic to its public IP 444. So far, so good.

AWS: Using regular filesystem on an EBS multi-attach volume in a one-writer, many-readers scenario
mc flag

I'm wanting to share data among multiple AWS instances in a high-performance, low-latency manner. Giving all instances read-only access (except one instance that would handle writes) is fine. Two points about this use-case:

  1. Nodes attached to the volume might come and go at any time (start, stop, be terminated, etc).
  2. Shared data includes 1000s of potentially small files that need to be listed and have  ...

Nginx can't be reached inside the docker container. What have I left out?
us flag

I've run out of ideas as to why I can't connect to this nginx inside or outside of the docker. I can understand that networking might cause a problem outside the machine, but even inside the docker nginx is not responding even though you can see it running and listening (inside the docker). Outside the docker, maybe the port isn't mapping thru but it seems to be configured such that it should.

AWS SSO: Should I use Permission Sets or IAM Roles, or Both?

We have AWS accounts for dev, staging, and prod. We use AWS SSO via Okta, and define groups like "Developers" and "Support" in Okta.

Developer group should have broad access to our AWS dev account, but limited access in staging and prod. Support group should have AWS access as well, but also different permissions by account.

How can I allow group members to log in, then have suitable permissions dep ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
