Samba share is wide open even when I setup username/password
cn flag

I've set up numerous samba shares that are username/password protected. In my most recent Samba share though users can access the shared directory without entering a username or password.

I created a user and placed it in the smbgrp group.

I'm trying to set up a Let's Encrypt type service in a private network with the Smallstep step-ca and traefik. And I'm stuck because step-ca fails to validate the certificate request from traefik..

Here is what I have done so far.

I launched a step-ca service in a docker container like explained in this documentation on a server with IP "172.16.4.5". I've also followed this documentation to add the ...

GCloud network pricing - packet or connection oriented?
uz flag

On GCloud, ingress traffic is free whereas egress is charged.

Is this egress charging based on a per-packet basis (purely OSI layer 3), or per-connection?

For example, if an outside server opens a TCP connection to my VM in gcloud, is:

  1. all traffic created by that connection counted as ingress, or
  2. all traffic created by that connection counted as egress, or
  3. each packet that is destined to my VM counted as ...

I want to apologize already for the wrong use of terms and my general misunderstanding for... EVERYTHING :D

The context :

I rent a server for two purposes :

  • Nextcloud
  • Pi-Hole

I rent a name domain “www.mydomain.com” and I linked the IP address of my server to this name domain.

Nextcloud is configured on port 80 (HTTP) et 443 (HTTPS) and Pi-Hole on port 81. So when I type www.mydomain.com, I’ ...

Exchange 2019 excessive archive size
au flag

I recently set up an internal Exchange 2019 server for a few users that we mainly use for testing. There are only 5 accounts on there, and in one case I imported the users entire existing email backup from PST file. This backup was around 10GB, although it didn't actually import fully as it hit the "TooManyLargeItems" error. I wasn't too fussed about this as I have a PST copy of each users mailbox as an ...

Cannot find FortiShield service via Get-Service, net start
cn flag

I've recently installed the FortiNet client and wanted to see what the "fortishield" service is. The weird thing is, I'm able to stop it and start it, but I cannot see it in the output of Get-Service in PS nor in net start.

I can also get it directly by name via Get-Service Name FortiShield.

Here's the output from searching by name directly and searching in the list from Get-Service:

Prove that software works via SOCKS

Intro

I have ruby software that utilizes a network during its execution.

Recently I got feedback from a user who works behind a firewall and use SOCKS, this software doesn't work for him

So I need to simulate this situation to check which part of my software doesn't respect HTTP_PROXY environment variables

What I have tried

I tried to simulate this firewall with iptables (inside docker):

I am trying to embed a Kibana dashboard using Nginx, but keep getting a blank screen. No errors are thrown (except for the expected "inline script" error), but nothing gets loaded. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
