Experiencing latency with haproxy load balancer

B.U

I'm experiencing high latency with haproxy load balancer when backend configuration uses private network IP addresses.

But when I replace backend server addresses with public IP address or Reverse DNS name I experience no latency.

  • What is causing the latency?
  • If one uses public IP or fqdn or Reverse DNS name, does network traffic bypasses haproxy?
  • Is it allowed to use public IP or fqdn or Revers ...

How to prevent SSH timeout of idle sessions?
cn flag

I'm using iterm2 to SSH from a Mac to an RHEL server. ServerAliveInterval is set to 60 in the client SSH config and TCPKeepAlive is set to 'yes' in the server sshd config. However, idle sessions always timeout after some period (I have not timed it). Running sessions, e.g. a long-running process or a tail will stay alive indefinitely. Is there some way to keep idle sessions alive using some combinati ...

Which directories to provide for pg_upgrade?
cn flag

I have docker container with postgres 12 and I want to upgrade it to 13. This image stores data and configs in /var/lib/postgresql/data dir:

  1. show data_directory; returns that directory
  2. postgresql.conf is stored in that directory

I tried to execute pg_upgrade with that directory (in old pg12 volume) as old data and config directory argument: docker run --name migrate13 -v pg12_volume postgres:13 su post ...

How can I migrate custom post type posts based on taxonomy from 1 Wordpress site to another?
us flag

I have an old stand alone site with several custom post types. I would like to select posts from those custom post types to export based on a custom taxonomy - then import them into a multisite installation. In other words I don't want to migrate all posts but categorize some and only migrate those. I don't mind using a plugin to do this. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!!

PHP that executes python script from webpage not running

Lou

My PHP is composed of two parts. A file loader, and python processing. The Python function/script works manually from Jupyter, partially from terminal with php .php, and not from the web page.

From Jupyter, script runs with all messages and outputs (output are html files). If from terminal, script prints of each of the execution steps but no output saved. If from webpage, php only uploads file, ...

export new env params without outputting to terminal

I'm trying to run a script and bash export is outputting text when I don't want it to because it's breaking up the output. I need to run a script which extracts some information and then inserts it into the next commands environment, kind of like acquiring the AWS secrets for the awscli and transparently passing them into the aws environment. I'm getting inconsistent results and I'm unsure why

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
