Can't upgrade Webform from 5.x to 6.x: "Entities exist of type Webform submission and Webform"

vn flag

I recently updated my site from Drupal 8.9.19 to 9.2.8, and from Webform 8.x-5.28 to 6.1.0.

I'm now trying to deploy this update to my test server, and I'm getting the following error when running drush cim:

[error] Drupal\Core\Config\ConfigImporterException: There were errors validating the config synchronization.
Entities exist of type Webform submission and Webform Title I Program. These entities need to be deleted before importing. in Drupal\Core\Config\ConfigImporter->validate() (line 750 of /home/m4m/web/core/lib/Drupal/Core/Config/ConfigImporter.php).

I found this other Drupal Answers post, which seems to describe a similar problem.

Unfortunately, this post doesn't really help me. I don't understand why I'm getting this error.

I also found this post from jrockowitz – but, again, I'm afraid it's a bit over my head.

Can anyone suggest a possible root cause, or a possible solution to try?

Thanks.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
