Managing Multiple UPSs, Each at a Different Location

eg flag

I have three UPSs which are physically located in three different places. All equipment is connected on the same LAN. Each UPS has at least one workstation attached. One of the UPSs handles the router, VoIP connection and the fiber hardware.

I have experimented with using Network UPS Tools [NUT] running on a Raspberry Pi 3B connected to a single APC UPS and it works fine, sending an email message whenever one of the NOTIFY conditions is met. [This single RPi unit is configured as a nutserver.] Having done this I have this idea that I could have a separate RPi for each UPS with one assigned as a server and the other two as clients. Is this feasible; is it the right approach? From what I have read in NUT documentation and from a few sites that map out NUT installation methods, it looks possible, but I have this nagging feeling that I've missed something particularly on the client configuration side. I have not found a configuration example that addresses this particular topology.

Thank you very much for helping me sort this out.

Another alternative could be to look into apcupsd and if it supports your upses.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
