Migrating dovecot maildirs (dump) to other service

au flag

After issues with the VPS host / manager I've migrated from a managed VPS mail to a more saas-type service.

However while I remembered to backup the VPS (so I have a bunch of dovecot maildirs in a zip) I didn't see the importing facilities of the new service before the domain had already been moved over and the old servers were inaccessible, the new service can only do imap sync.

And so I was wondering how to migrate (and preserve) the content of the old mailboxes over:

  • access the maildirs directly and try to push the data over IMAP while conserving all the IMAP metadata extensions of dovecot (is there a tool for that?)
  • try to set up a dovecot mounting the maildirs and pull from the new service
  • other?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
