Scraping VNC server on Alma Linux 8 and Gnome

in flag

I am trying to get a scaping VNC server on display :0 (the physical display) working on Alma Linux 8 with GNOME (GDM 3.28.3). No matter what I try, I cannot get the actual display shared over VNC. We need to be able to have users log in inside VNC (x11vnc option -unixpw) and we cannot create new virtual desktops, it needs to be one shared desktop.

Here is the command line we were using in CentOS 7:

/usr/bin/x11vnc -skip_dups -display :0 -auth guess -bg -o /var/log/x11vnc -forever -rfbport 5900 -unixpw -shared -norepeat -noxdamage

In Alma Linux 8 (or RHEL 8 based), -auth guess doesn't work and none of the recommended paths work, other than user specific desktops. Even when passing an auth, x11vnc fails to open display :0.

I will add that Wayland is disabled in GNOME.

Is there a way to scrape the physical display in RHEL 8 based Linux OS and have users log into a shared display?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
