I login to remote linux boxes via ssh to manage them. ssh [email protected].
They are only accessible when I'm logged into the VPN and are not accessible publicly.
Sometimes when I try to login, I am asked for my Password multiple times as it's not accepting the password, even though I know for a fact it's correct. After the 3rd attempt it will say, Permission denied, please try again
at which point it lets me try 3 more times. After those failures it reads, Received disconnect from <internal ip> port 22:2: Too many authentication failures
If I restart my local computer, I can log in again (via the exact same command per history
.)
When I get into the server no software installed commands are recognized. None of the commands are available via which
either.
If I su - myname
and provide my password ,I'm logged into my account again, and everything works - all commands found.
If I log out, then try to log back in, all of the commands work again without having to use su -
. If I log out and log back in, commands disappear again, and I have to restart computer.
If IT logs in as me (from windows machine, either via su
or directly with my L and P) they don't have any problems. They believe it's computer / terminal related.
Thoughts on why this is happening?
If it matters, Remote machine is CentOS 6 VMWare image. Local is Mac, and it happens from multiple Macs with various OSs.
