Does PPK file depend on DNS?

gb flag

I previously used PuTTY to connect to my EC2 instance with a PPK key file.

I let my domain expire, and now I've replaced the domain with the IP address in PuTTY for the host name, but when I try to connect it says "Remote side unexpectedly closed network connection"

Is it possible the PPK file was set up to depend on the DNS somehow?

Do I have to re-purchase the domain in order to connect?

No, a PPK has absolutely no information about the host(s) you will or might use that key with. If you use Putty 'sessions', _they_ can and often do specify the host, but that would cause an up-front connection failure, not 'remote closed'. Try enabling logging before you try to connect and look at the resulting file and/or convert the PPK to OpenSSH format (with puttygen) and use `ssh` with that keyfile and at least one `-v` maybe two or three, to see what info you get.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
