Increase timeout to avoid 504 while running Java EE application on Tomcat on PopOS

ng flag

I have the following issue:

I am new to this area, so kindly forgive for some of my terminology. I am running my Java EE application via Eclipse on my PopOS running on VMWare Fusion on my Mac. The PostgreSQL database that I am trying to access to hosted in AWS in the Oregon Region, and I am currently located in Asia. Please note that I can access the Database only through the VPN.

The issue that I am facing is that, when I run Apache Tomcat, and hit the home page of the application, the browser works to get the data, but eventually throws a 504 on port 443 (HTTPS) after some time. I guess why this is happening is because I am far away from where the data is hosted, and also being on VPN, with several hops, I am not able to receive the data in time before the timeout.

My question is this, is there a way to, either increase the timeout so that I do not get a timeout, and the page eventually loads. I do not mind waiting for a bit longer than usual to load the content than get the 504. Or, something else? Relocating, or hosting the database on another region is not possible.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
