Why does Azure Data Factory SHIR server lose connection?

de flag

Windows Server 2019 (WS2019) Self-Hosted Integration Runtime (SHIR)

I have two on-premises WS2019 servers with Integration Runtime installed.

Each SHIR has been successfully registered with an Azure Data Factory (ADF) SHIR binding.

Network connectivity from on-premises to Azure is via Microsoft ExpressRoute.

This 2-node cluster is relied on only for connectivity to on-premises resources such as databases and SFTP servers. It is not utilized for compute.

Normally this cluster operates as expected.

Intermittently both nodes of the cluster lose connectivity with the data-factory. It is not known exactly when connectivity is lost and analysis of network logs does not indicate any general loss of connectivity.

Connectivity can be consistently re-established simply by restarting the Integration Runtime Windows Service.

How to diagnose this issue ? What factors could lead to the SHIR losing connectivity ?

Does the SHIR auto-retry but consistently fail ? If so, how is retry logic different than Windows Service startup logic ?

Or does SHIR fail once and enter a state where it no longer attempts to connect ?

Is it possible to configure the SHIR to periodically retry connection ?

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
