High Packet Loss on Device when Plugged into Unifi Network

lr flag

We have 3 large format projectors of the same model on our network all plugged into a small switch. Recently, we have been unable to reliably load 2 of the 3 projectors' web management pages. Further investigation revealed that we were getting about 50% packet loss when accessing these devices.

The branch of this network is:

  1. 3 Projectors
  2. Unmanaged Linksys Switch
  3. Managed Cisco CBS350
  4. Primary IT Unifi Network

After some work tracing the problem down through the switch hops, we discovered that the issue seems to arise only when the trunk line between 3 & 4 are connected. (See image) During all testing, my machine is plugged into 3.

Initially, that would lead me to think that there are perhaps other devices with the same IPs, but pings and Wireshark data seem to say that is not the case.

Does anyone have an idea why the issue would show up only when the Unifi trunk is plugged in? Any other steps we should take to try to figure out what the issue is?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
