How to set "mode" in mdadm

ng flag

Want to "activate" RAID5 spare by using spare-devices=0

nov25-1@nov251-desktop:~$ sudo mdadm --detail /dev/md122 --spare-devices=0

getting this response:

mdadm: :option --spare-devices not valid in misc mode

How do I add correct "mode": to the mdadm --detail /dev/md122 --spare-devices=0 command ?

`--spare-devices` is suited for *create, build, or grow* operation only. Notice also that the RAID5's additional device *is not a spare*, it is one of active devices. What do you want to achieve: [explain](https://serverfault.com/posts/1118824/edit) (in high level terms) what you have now, in what state or condition it is currently and what do you want to do with it?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
