Windows file content not updated in Explorer/Powershell
cf flag

On a Windows Server a logging tool writes .log files to disk continuesly and rotates log files daily at midnight. Every day the new log file gets created, but almost every day its content / meta data does not get updated afterwards in Windows Explorer and Powershell.

Example: A file was created on May 17th, 2022 at 0:00. It has a size of roughly 24KB in Windows Explorer and has a last write time  ...

OmekaS (php cms) can't copy to a folder, but empty files are created
ph flag

I am trying to fix a thumbnailer problem on my omekaS (a php cms, that uses laminas framework),

I realized that new thumbnails weren’t being generated on my system, and that even forcing them to be regenerated wouldn’t work.

In my error logs, i would get

Best practice for AWS root account or superuser?
br flag

Normally, we have the rule of 3 people having superuser access with 3 username/passwords and if anyone is ever offboarded(they leave or are fired), on vacation, out sick, different time-zone, someone has access still and we are never crippled. When looking at AWS, I don't get why it seems there is only one AWS 'root account' and password. It would seem the person with the keys to the castle is not in  ...

Can I map multiple AD groups to multiple roles on ESXi?

I have an AD joined ESXi server (v7.0) without a vCenter server. I can map an AD group to the "Administrator" role by configuring the advanced setting Config.HostAgent.Plugins.Hostsvc.EsxAdminsGroup. But is that all? Can I not map an AD group to the "Read only" role, for example?

Choose Windows Server 2019 License
pl flag

We are going for Cloud services, but confused about Windows Server 2019 licensing models.

Cloud service provider confirms that they are using Linux as host OS and they are not using any Windows Server licenses.

The Windows VMs we are purchasing from them are not licensed and we need to go with "Bring Your Own License" model. But as per Windows Server 2019 License terms, all the cores of Host OS shou ...

Service Control Policy - Prevent Root
ng flag

I would like to prevent the root account in my AWS Organization from taking actions in all the other accounts in the organization so I was planning to setup a Service Control Policy to block the root account which is also recommended guidance from AWS.

Sounds good in theory but can't the root account just remove the Service Control Policy?

Creating a gsm (LTE) connection without APN in NetworkManager

I work with a device that has an LTE modem, which has been working properly so far for many users out-of-the-box without having to configure its APN - this is not the case for all users, some of them DO require an APN setting.

However, NetworkManager doesn't recognize the connection, and hence it cannot manage it. When I'm trying to create the connection so it can manage it

Can you modify or remove a Domain GPO Setting through powershell

I have an issue where I was modifying some settings in the Default Domain Policy (I know I shouldn't have) and I've managed somehow to set the 'Allow log on through Terminal Services' to a null value (I think I forgot to uncheck it after I removed the groups I deleted). So now I can't login using RDP. I can still access the Domain Controller through ssh so is there a way to remove this setting through po ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
