High CPU usage and less than 5% ram usage (MYSQL). Should I add more CPU Cores?
gh flag

My current server has 12 cores and 96gb of RAM. But due to my MYSQL queries, up to 100% of the server is always in usage while ram is less than 5%. I know the major issue is with the SQL queries. From logs, it turned out to be some queries that sums up values in all columns. Now due to how huge the application is, optimizing the queries will not be possible in the short term.

I have an APC Backup UPS ES 850G2, connected via USB to a RaspberryPi acting as NUT master. The Pi uses the usbhid-ups driver. Several other devices are NUT slaves and poll the Pi for UPS info.

Here's a list of some particular things about the APC:

Why would you use 192.168.0.0/16 over 10.0.0.0/8
cn flag

Most home networks use 192.168.x.0/24. I wonder why this range even exists. You could as well use 10.x.x.0/24 or something like that. So why did they waste the entire 192.168 range for private networks when they could use the 10 range as well?

Why do consumer routers almost always default to 192.168? Only ever seen 10.x.x.x in business or school networks.

Increase space on a ext4 file system?
ru flag

I have the following stats in my Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS file system:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 97G 4.7G 93G 5% /
/dev/sdb 89G 89G 0 100% /mnt/games

I need more space in the /mnt/games section.

How can I take 75G from 'dev/sda1' and use it in '/dev/sdb'?

Thanks!

I'm trying to access a Virtual Machine running in Google Cloud which has a Apache NiFi service running on port 8080 on the VM. I have managed to create an ssh key and upload the public SSH key to the cloud to access the machine.

I've tested connecting to the VM via the command line, from my Windows machine, and everything is working. I've read that in order to access the remote 8080 port on the V ...

Central Certificate Store Failures and Logging

I've got IIS 10 on a Server 2019 instance with a Centralized Certificate Store configured.

The CCS looks valid in IIS. Certs are loaded and display no warnings or errors, but requests to any site returns a TCP reset.

  • If I manually install the cert from the CCS into IIS it works too, so it's not a cert problem.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
