What are the correct Postfix settings to enable legacy TLS v1.0 connections from an aging Windows XP box?
in flag

I have an aging WinXP Embedded SP3 box (don't judge; We're in the process of deprecating it) which need to send email for status updates etc.

This used to use GMail but they're going to turn off support for insecure apps soon so we need a work around to resolve the issue in the short term. To that end, I've set up a ubuntu-linux-based postfix (v3.4.13) server and have tried to configure it to all ...

Way to convert user account on Windows 10 from on-prem AD to AzureAD?
jp flag

Many employees are now remote that haven't been in the past. We would like them to start using an AzureAD logon for their laptops instead of user tied to our office's Active Directory system. My understand is that if they just setup a new user tied to Azure then they would have to reinstall everything. Is there anyway to avoid that and convert a user mostly seamlessly?

DO web-server CPU at 100% for prolonged period of time
jp flag

I need to find a reason for this travesty.

My CPU goes to 100% for about an hour, 3 and 4 times a day. I have several websites on that server. When I type top -c command it shows that php-fpm is getting hit for several websites at the same time. Is this a bot attack of some sort? What should I do to isolate the problem and fix it? Any ideas?

Apache not listing files recently added to directory
tn flag

I am completely lost. I have a site that has a subdirectory called "assets" that's listing files added in 2019 and earlier, but will not list files created in 2022 (I don't know why they haven't used this in three years).

Server version: Apache/2.4.6 (CentOS)

This is the config file that's allowing 10 of 13 files to be seen.

How "real" is the POSIX clock in a virtual machine?
it flag

Introduction:

Time is OS like Linux is typically derived from a clock chip (RTC), or maintained by software using either periodic interrupts or some hardware registers (e.g. CPU's TSC cycle counter) for implementation.

Obviously in a virtual machine there is no direct hardware access (e.g. to RTC), so keeping the correct time may be tricky.

Specifically I'm wondering about the two POSIX clock impleme ...

DNS resolution for a docker container running on k8s-installed-host follows k8s dns resolution

I have k8s installed on a ubuntu20.04 with coredns as custom dns service.

Then i deployed an empty ubuntu docker container using

docker run -it --name test-ubuntu ubuntu:20.04 /bin/bash

Then for some reason, /etc/resolve.conf in the test-ubuntu container looks like enter image description here

which is clearly something only pods launched with k8s should have. My guess coredns is somehow affecting other docker containers too but ...

I want to exchange Ethernet Packet between two tap device(for implementing TCP/IP protocol stack in usermode).

The problem I encountered is that tap1 and tap2 only can receive broadcast packet through bridge but not point to point packet!

For example, when I send packet from tap1 to tap2,tcmpdump can capture packet on tap1,but tap2 can't receive packet. However, when I set detination address as "ff:ff ...

Which Xen PVM properties are copied for live-migration?

I wonder (after another failing live migration): Which VM attributes (properties) are copied from source to destination when a live migration of a PVM is being performed?

In our case the libvirt framework is being used in a pacemaker cluster.

Specifically I'm wondering about:

  • block-device assignments
  • memory size
  • number of vCPUs
  • networks (veth)
  • CPU model

A recent failure I saw was this:

What happens to open TCP sessions when a DNAT endpoint is removed in iptables
ng flag

In Kubernetes, when kube-proxy is configured in iptables mode, it will create DNAT rules to forward packets to the service endpoints (the pod IPs). If the service changes its endpoints, and one endpoint is removed, would that affect existing open TCP sockets, or is the kernel stateful in a way that remembers those sessions and they are kept alive until closed by one of the two peers?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
