Printer Point and Print restriction GPO not working
tr flag

As a fix for the Print Nightmare, I've disabled the need for administrator privileges to install print drivers (this is working). This is effectively the same as exposing oneself to the Print Nightmare exploit. Which is why I want to "whitelist" certain print servers, in order to partly mitigate the exploit.

To do this, I have tried enabling the GPO:

Library Won't Update
ng flag

I'm trying to update my libarchive library on CentOS 7. Currently, I have version 3.1.2. If I type the following command, here is the result:

# rpm -q libarchive
libarchive-3.1.2-10.el7_2.x86_64

I was able to find an .rpm file, online, which provides libarchive 3.5.2. I'd like to update to this newer version. So, I attempted to install the package by typing the following:

Unable to serve static files using Nginx server (Nginx Error 403 Forbidden)
bs flag

I have Nginx 1.18.0 installed on Ubuntu 20.04. I am trying to serve (many) custom HTML files via Nginx. The HTML files contain animation of online images and mapping. Some HTML files also have associated JS and CSS files.

Instead of using defaults, I created a server block my_domain like this:

mkdir -p /var/www/my_domain/html
chown -R my_username /var/www/my_domain/html
chmod -R 755 /var/www/my_dom ...

Nameservers updated but still shows NXDOMAIN when querying
in flag

I've changed my nameservers from Freenom's to Cloudflare ones, but however it's been a few hours now and WHOIS does show the nameservers have been changed to Cloudflare ones, but when you use the nslookup command via Terminal it would show NXDOMAIN. What's the problem?

Original Nameservers: ns1.freenom.com, ns2 etc.

New Nameservers: desi.ns.cloudflare.com, guy.ns.cloudflare.com

Linux/ext4/sqlite: Can touching a file while it's being written to cause a race condition?

For context: I need to be able to reliably update the timestamp on some sqlite DB files which get intermittent updates on an ext4 filesystem.

Can using the touch command (to update the last modification time) fail when the database is being written to, or even worse, cause data loss?

Windows Events: How to interpret Failure Code
in flag

I am new to Windows Logs.

When looking at events in the events viewer the failure status and sub status show cryptic values like 0xC000006D and 0xC0000064. Besides doing a google search is there any place where I can look up for these and interpret their value?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
