Can safely block these ICMPv6 message types on a web server?
ca flag

I have a Debian 11 VPS on a cloud provider, with both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled and the eth0 interface with both a global-scoped ipv6 address (public) and a link-scoped ipv6 address (fe80::/10).

The sole purpose of the server is to host a public website.

I’m implementing a firewall on the server using iptables/ip6tables. I read RFC4890 but still not sure how to handle some ICMPv6 message types and if  ...

Authentication with pub/priv key pair fails for chrooted users
ke flag

I'm trying to isolate certain users from other users, which requires the use of either virtualization or jailing. At the moment I've gone with jailing, which mostly works fine, except for a single problem: chrooted users are unable to use pub/priv key authentication.

As far as I understand, the SSH server works like this:

I am trying to use a package to optimize my main site and when I follow the instructions it works great but it messes up all subdomains as well. Can I somehow exclude any subdomain from this location lookup ?

The change I need to make is this

Proxy Redirect on NGINX not working as expected

I set up nginx as a reverse proxy for two proxied servers. Each of them (proxy and proxied servers) is running as a container in a docker environment. Proxied server appalpha is simply an nginx:alpine serving a static webpage (just for demo and testing purposes). All works fine here because things are simple. The other proxied server's image is kanboard/kanboard. When I try to access this service through ...

Can I configure a TLD in a DNS server?
co flag

I'm pretty new to DNS. From what I've learnt so far, I know that: when a DNS server is asked to resolve some domain name (assuming all caches are empty), it will first contact a root name server, and ask for the name sever of the TLD, and keep asking his way to the authoritative name server of the domain name in question.

My question is, say I have a company with a local network with a bunch of m ...

Updated SSL AFTER adding my site to Google Search Console
ng flag

A non-technical person here. I added my domain to Google Search Console BEFORE I realized that I hadn't enabled SSL on my site. (D'OH!) I have corrected the SSL on my domain. Do I need to do anything to update on Google Search Console or will Google figure it out? (which is what I'm hoping for) :-)

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
