Higher ping when using OpenVPN on Ubuntu server

ve flag

To summarize the problem I'm having - I have two servers, one 700 miles away from me, and one 200 miles away from me. The server that is 700 miles away from me has approximately 400mbps both ways, and the server 200 miles away from me has 10gbps both ways. While running CentOS and OpenVPN on the first server, my ping is around 70-80 ms to the target server. When I switched the OS to Ubuntu and set OpenVPN up the same way, my latency increased approximately 40-50 milliseconds. Now, for server 2, the issue is repeated, however I'm only able to use Ubuntu on that server, so I cannot test if switching to CentOS will decrease the latency. Is there anything I can do about this?

Latency variations of 40-50 ms are insignificant. This is probably just typical variations as there are at least half a dozen hops (probably more, especially using VPN) between client and server.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
