A Ubuntu install gives the operator full control; they can erase whatever is on the machine & install a clean Ubuntu system, OR install Ubuntu alongside Ubuntu - it's the choice of the installer. You were a little vague on details (what Ubuntu release, desktop? server? ISO used etc), but I'd use your Ubuntu installation media in *live* mode (ie. boot & use the "Try Ubuntu" option) to explore if windows was erased or is just hidden... if Fastboot etc was left on, and the file-system was left unclean, the windows maybe just ignored by Ubuntu (safest option as Ubuntu doesn't control it).

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
