My Ubuntu System Does not start the Desktop

id flag

A few days ago my storage got completely filled and I accidentally shut the computer. now I cannot get past the black screen and all I'm left with is a virtual terminal. I tried resizing the partition but at the last second, it gave an error. I'm using ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Why would this happen and what should I do now as re-installing is out of the question for me as I have a lot of important data.

could someone please suggest a method which is preferable quick but anything can help?

Boot to a live cd and copy your important data to another drive or to one of the many cloud storage services. Then you can wipe your system disk and reinstall the OS.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
