Is there a system-wide EQ that ISN'T PulseAudio EQ?

tm flag

I'm looking for a system-wide equalizer to improve the sound from a laptop which is running the latest version of Linux. PulseAudio EQ and PulseEffect keeps coming up, however I've seen that it's no longer supported and can even causes problems.

So is there any alternative? Something that is hopefully easy to use?

[pulseaudio-equalizer](https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=pulseaudio-equalizer&searchon=names&suite=all&section=all) and [pulseeffects](https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=pulseeffects&searchon=names&suite=all&section=all) are in the official repos for recent versions of Ubuntu. That doesn't look unsupported.

I can find comments as early as 4 months ago on Ask Ubuntu of people groaning it's not supported.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
