eog, unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

bd flag

I know that there are a billion questions about this same problem, but nothing seems to work for me. I am running Ubuntu 18.04 in a VirtualBox.

When I try using eog to open an image, it gives me this error:

unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

and this one:

(eog:1465): Gtk-WARNING**: 17:22:42.552: cannot open display: :0"

I have looked at so many solutions to this problem. So far, changing my display environment doesn't work, and when I tried xhost +, it gives me "unable to open display ":0". Anybody have any other ideas? Or am I doing something wrong when changing my display environment/xhost +

I agree with @Levente. Since you say you are using Ubuntu in VirtualBox, we're going to assume you are *not* using "Windows Subsystem for Linux", as they are pretty much orthogonal. I've summited an edit to remove that erroneous tag, but if your question really is about WSL, please feel free to edit the question and add the relevant information.

@NotTheDr01ds changed it, thanks! Any chance you know how to solve this problem?

Sorry, I don't -- I monitor WSL questions because I'm more likely to have answers there.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
