You have to open terminal, then execute the following commands to repair APT:

sudo rm -v /var/lib/dpkg/lock* /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo rm -vrf /var/lib/apt/lists/*

Then update package lists using normal update command:

sudo apt-get update

Finally install upgraded package versions using below command:

sudo apt-get upgrade

Also please note that all above commands use sudo for getting root privileges to run system maintenance tasks. You can't run such tasks using ordinary user rights.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
