20.04.2 Java 16 perf: interrupt took to long freezes system

cn flag

Recently I updated from JDK 8 to 16. When launching java applications the system stutters which often leads to a black screen and all USB peripherals lose power. I checked the kernal and syslogs and found "perf: interrupt took too long" entries when this happens.

System specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 1700x
  • 4x16GB Corsair Vengence LPX (CMK32GX4M2A2400C14)
  • Radeon RX 570 Series (POLARIS10, DRM 3.40.0, 5.12.10-051210-generic, LLVM 11.0.0) (0x67df)
  • MB MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon
  • PSU Corsair RM 750x
  • Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

I've updated my kernal from 5.4.0-74 to 5.12.10-051210. I also updated my motherboard from a 2017 bios to the latest. Overclocking and AMP are disabled.

I tried both java-16-oracle and java-16-openjdk-amd64 and experience the same issue with both. Switching back to java-8-openjdk-amd64 doesn't have the issue.

Thank you for the help.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
