External Microphone plugged into pink mic jack is not detected. Do you know how to fix this?

eg flag

An external microphone plugged into the pink mic jack does not work. It shows up on alsamixer as Rear Mic. On Pulse Audio the recording source is Built-in Audio Analog Stereo. Using Ubuntu 20.04. My sound card is HDA Intel PCH with a Realtek ALC892 chip. The motherboard is Cybernet Manufactering Inc. iOne-S20 with chipset: Intel Sunrise Point LPC.

I have tried various suggestions from several websites to no avail. I have purged and reinstalled pulse audio and alsa. Ouput from pactl list sources:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
