How Can I Make the Default Drag Action "Move" Instead of Copy?

us flag

Anytime I drag a file in nautilus, it copies itself to the destination (even on the same volume; I have everything on a single disk with / as the only mountpoint).

This is insane, because (a) I don't want extra copies of every file I touch, (b) it's not the expected behavior, as from a user perspective I am "moving" the "file", (c) no other OS I can think of has this as its default behavior (at least for files on the same volume).

How can I get the expected behavior?

Hold down the `shift` key while dragging. For me it normally moves stuff when dragging between folders on the same volume

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
