No space left on device before upgrade to Ubuntu 20:04 LT

ar flag

I've been running Ubuntu 16.04 and recently have been getting regular messages that there is "no space left on device". I'm concerned that this will cause problems if I try to update to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, so I would like to fix this first.

I have followed all the recommendations I have found in other threads, but the problem persists. Here is the output of df -h:

In the past, after deleting old kernels and running various auto clean commands, I've seen an increase in the space available on /dev/nvme0n1p5 19G 18G 0 100% /, and the "no space left on device" errors have (temporarily) ceased. But now this seems to remain unchanged.

Below is the output from mount. It shows /dev/nvme0n1p5 on / type ext4 (rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered):

Generally speaking 19 GB for root filesystem is not enough. A practical solution will be to delete some unused packages and snaps. Also inspect other directories using the `du` command for possible deletion of unnecessary files and subdirectories.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
