I recently acquired an ASUS ROG Strix Laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce 3080 graphics card.
After setting everything up with Ubuntu 21.04 and a Linux 5.12 kernel, and after a few days of full use without problems, since yesterday my laptop is stuck on an infinite boot loop. After selecting 'Ubuntu' from grub (I left a Windows partition as a dual boot which I do not intend to remove and to save you from some time I really don't think that it is the source that causes this problem) I cannot reach the login page and only see a blank screen.
Things I have already tried:
- Booting from live usb and performing boot repair. The GUI showed that some repair was done but it did not change anything
- Editing /etc/default/grub in order to replace 'quiet splash' with 'quiet'
- Setting nomodeprobset
As I would like to avoid completely removing and re-installing Ubuntu both because it will take some time and most importantly I won't know what caused this problem, how to fix it and if it will come up again, I am open to any suggestions towards solving it.
Thank you all in advance!
Edit: This is definitely a problem related to kernel 5.12, as booting to 5.11 from grub advanced options lets me log in. Unfortunately, since the wireless adapter of my new laptop can only be recognized from kernel 5.12, I still am in need of fixing this problem, hope this find can lead to better suggestions.
