See the [this question](https://superuser.com/questions/905936/linuxs-write-command-issue). It looks like the user `shawnx333` is logged in locally. To enable messaging for `shawnx333`, enter the command `mesg y` in the terminal.

See [Broadcast messages don't appear on gnome-terminal, but appear on xterm](https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/283543/65304). Notice that the device returned by `tty` in `shawnx333`'s terminal emulator (`/dev/pts/1`) does not appear in the output of `who -w`. That suggests that there is no `utmp` entry - which may explain why `wall`/`write` can't write there. See if it works if `shawnx333` uses a plain `xterm`.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
