Ubuntu 20.04 live USB boot hangs due to either of 2 start jobs

th flag

Used Rufus to create a Ubuntu live USB; about 11 GB of persistence.

I can boot from the USB and into GRUB without any problems. However, once I actually try to boot into Ubuntu, the boot hangs and does not continue, no matter how long I wait. Using nomodeset shows that the boot hangs on either of two start jobs after about 30 seconds:

(1 of 2) A start job is running for udev Wait for Complete Device Initialization

(2 of 2) A start job is running for Monitoring of LVM2 mirrors, snapshots etc. using dmeventd or progress polling

Safe boot and fast boot are both disabled.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
