Custom keyboard shortcut / command for opening certain apps does not work

tr flag

I am trying to create keyboard shortcuts to open some apps, like Joplin (note taking app). They don't open the apps. I tested it with other apps, such as Firefox and cheese, and they work fine. I'm not completely sure, but so far it seems like it might be downloaded apps giving me this issue.

Custom command I have set up Custom command I have set up

When I run the command in terminal myself, it tries to open the app in the terminal only.

Joplin running in terminal Joplin running in terminal

I haven't downloaded that many apps yet, but this is also happening with discord. Except with discord, it can't run in terminal because of formatting issues (not that I want it to).

I am very sorry if this is a stupid question. I am very new to Linux, and while I hate having to ask, I have already spent several hours looking for a solution.

Welcome to AskUbuntu, commands are described by full path, `which joplin` finds out what it is.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
