How does Ubuntu indexes USB devices?

cn flag

I was looking inside sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb and I want to figure out how does Ubunto give numbers-id to each new device.

For example, I've noticed that some devices get the 1-{index} where index is an upgoing number. Yet, other devices like Toshiba get 2-{}.

Does any of you maybe have documantation on how does it work?

The number assignment is generally `{bus}-{chain order}`. Each port on your computer may have its own bus number. The chain order is assigned based on the discovery time by Ubuntu. So, if you have slower USB devices, they may have higher chain order numbers despite being “closer” to the computer.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
