can't vmtouch whole root: run out of memory

ng flag

I can't execute that: sudo vmtouch -dlwF /

It looks like a ulimit problem... But how can I fix this?

max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 5128728

I want to set it up to 36 GB so there are still 4GB availlable for the system. AND I KNOW what I am doing, I confirm.

Error message: vmtouch: FATAL: malloc: out of memory

Thank you all helping me

A simple Edit: how can I change this 'max locked memory' attribte for vmtouch so there is no error when I do vmtouch -wdlF /.

of course - I'm at askubuntu. The problem is the limited memory for file locking... I'm sure

We have plenty of folks using OS's **based** on Ubuntu, but that's not standard Ubuntu that we support here. Please tell us what version Ubuntu you run. Please tell us more about what problem that you're trying to solve. You're asking us to debug a unsupported third party app. Also show me `free -h`. In looking at the man page for vmtouch, I don't see all of the options that you've passed. We need more detail.

I am sure it is with every debian based or unix based operating system. It is Ubuntu 20.04 upwards

vmtouch is not installed by default. It's an optional third-party app. You weren't clear on what version OS you're running. Is it Ubuntu?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
