How do I type the Ubuntu pipe character? My keyboard does not carry this symbol

i tried using the letter I but was rejected. There aren't much options or choices that are available. The pipe must be a keyboard input so where do I get that from?

It's a standard characters so almost every keyboard has it (english keyboards anyway). If you device has a reduced keyboard (fewer keys for size) then the designers may have substituted a combination of keys that produce the key (fn+other keys), eg. modern dell keyboard don't include a SysRq key, but you can simulate the key by twisting yourself to use an extra Fn key combination and keys you normally use to create the key.. I suspect your answer is dependent on your device/firmware etc.

Please [edit] your question and add the model of your keyboard and the version of Ubuntu you are using.

Does this answer your question? [How can I type a Unicode character (for example, em-dash —?)](https://askubuntu.com/questions/31258/how-can-i-type-a-unicode-character-for-example-em-dash). For pipe Character: Ctrl+Shift+U --> 007C.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
