MinimalCD 32-Bit Ubuntu freezes

cn flag

So Ubuntu 18.04 "Bionic Beaver" MinimalCD loads up till I see the screen "install now" and then it just freezes. Is the CD faulty? It's an older computer (it came with win vista, at the moment it has no OS) and it it's an older CD-R with 700MB. USB sticks won't work.

thank you and have a nice day me

Why not install the full 32 bit image using a USB drive? It is easier than the minimalCD. Alternatively use Lubuntu, or Puppy Linux, or Antix, they still work quite well with older computers. Ubuntu (GNOME) 18.04 may be too resource hungry to run on it.

Did you verify the ISO? (https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#0) If it is an *older* pc, it cannot be that low-spec if it came with Vista in my opinion; as I use devices from 2003+ for QA-testing and many came with XP (boxes incapable of using Vista). I'd switch to text terminal & explore what is going on; if the CD is faulty the *squashfs* errors are usually easy to detect...

Hello. Thank you for your answers. I'm using Puppy Linux now and I want to get information about my system but it doesn't have lshw and inxi for example. I'm trying to figure it out but so far I can say Puppy Linux works very well.

Please refer https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic, Ubuntu and official *flavors* of Ubuntu (https://ubuntu.com/download/flavours) are on-topic on this site. The on-topic link provides alternate SE sites for non-Ubuntu OSes. (*only Lubuntu of the distros mentioned by @ArchismanPanigrahi is on-topic here*)

@guiverc This question is still on topic, though. I mentioned Puppy to OP so that the old computer can still be revived, just in case recent versions of Ubuntu don't work well with it.

No @ArchismanPanigrahi; read the last comment by the OP. The OP has installed Puppy and is now asking about Puppy's ..... (*I'm using Puppy Linux now and I want to get information about my system but it doesn't have...*)

@guiverc That comment is indded off topic, but I still don't feel that the question should be closed just because of that comment (because the question is about Ubuntu). We can tell OP that Puppy is off topic here, which you did. I should have mentioned that Puppy is off topic in my first comment.

Given OP's last comment, if not non-Ubuntu then "*This describes a problem that can't be reproduced, that seemingly went away on its own or ...*" given OP has moved on... My 2c anyway. Your comment was fine, I probably should not have include the @ to *ping* you, so apologies/Sorry.

I still have questions about my pc. Can I ask it or not? It's about rescuing an old PC by finding out the hardware info in linux puppy.

Questions about the Ubuntu Minimal CD options, even Lubuntu are on-topic here. Puppy Linux is not Ubuntu, nor *flavor* of Ubuntu thus off-topic and cannot be asked here. Refer back to my 2nd comment.

@goofygoober You can ask questions about Puppy Linux at https://unix.stackexchange.com/ as well as in Puppy Linux Forums https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/ (note that you can install `neofetch` to quickly get some hardware info). Good luck with reviving your PC.

Does this answer your question? [How do I find out which version and derivative of Ubuntu is right for my hardware in terms of minimal system requirements?](https://askubuntu.com/questions/206407/how-do-i-find-out-which-version-and-derivative-of-ubuntu-is-right-for-my-hardwar)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
