No video after wake from suspend

in flag

I have no onboard or integrated graphics on my CPU or motherboard. So I'm using a Nvidia GT710 basic GPU for video. I'd really like to use Ubuntu instead of windows for this PC. However I'm having issues with the PC showing video or waking at all from a suspended state.

If I use the Nvidia driver "metapackage from nvidia driver 470" then the PC will wake but I have no video.

If I use the X.org X server Nouveau video driver then it wont wake and I get a blinking cursor.

Edit 1: I found this thread with similar issues. I found that I can enter a terminal and kill the display manager it will then boot up the GUI desktop as mentioned in this thread. But no long term solution has been given:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
