Fail to resume after hibernate on Ubuntu 21.04

ng flag

I have a Ubuntu 21.04 laptop with hibernate enabled. It has worked flawlessly until a few days ago, then it stopped working likely after installing and updating some packages, including a new kernel image.

Now each time I try to resume after hibernate, it falls back to restart. On dmesg log I read the following lines:

[ 17.407048] kernel: PM: hibernation: resume from hibernation

Here is my configuration:

$ cat /sys/power/state
freeze mem disk
$ cat /sys/power/disk
[platform] shutdown reboot suspend test_resume
$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.11.0-25-generic root=/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root ro quiet splash resume=UUID=a2be2098-*********-c2b3b22def13 mem_sleep_default=deep

Any idea of what might be wrong?

There's a [new kernel bug](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1925843) that might be at fault. Try booting with an older kernel to see if you still have the problem.

I'm now using the 5.11.0-26.28 kernel in proposed and the bug does not occur anymore.

— Thank you for letting us know. I don't have that version available in my proposed, but I do have 5.11.0-27, which I installed. It was a mess, including the suspend. So, I'll wait until the non-proposed updates come through.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
