20.04 Installer Crashing and Freeze on Bootup

cn flag

I have a Macbook Pro, 16 gigs RAM, 250 gig SSD, Model A-1398. I had been running 16.04 LTS 32 bits for years without a problem, and decided to upgrade to 20.04 LTS, as not many apps were supported for 32 bits anymore. I made a bootable USB stick, and it did boot on that. Backed all the data in the laptop, as it was easier to do a clean install and just put that data back in. I noted that when it booted, that I could not connect to the WI-FI, so I got an ethernet adapter to plug an ethernet cable into, and it worked fine after booting. Then I did the install, and selected installing third party drivers, and erasing the HD. Then when it was nearly done, I got a message, after the packages were installed that the installer crashed. I got another message right after that the install was completed, and to reboot the machine. When I did that I got this message:

Failed to set MokListRT: Invalid Parameter

Could not create MokListRT

Importing MOK states has failed: import_mok_state() failed

: Invalid Parameter Continuing boot since secure mode is disabled

The laptop freezes after this, with no flashing cursor. Attempting to reboot the machine with the USB installer stick results in the same message and freeze initially, and then I get this message, after which it freezes again:

[ 170.217763] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No caching mode page found

[ 170.217800] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache write through

How do I fix this? Trying to boot using the external DVD drive does nothing, and the disk is now stuck in the drive.

Any fix that would use the terminal would not work, because of the freeze. I looked at the other pages with problems, and there is an apparent bug in the installer, as there is already a report on this. However, not having access to give the commands is a new one,and the only solution I can think of is pulling the HD card, or something similar. But if it's a firmware error, that does not help either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
