I have a laptop which has both linux Ubuntu and windows 10 partitions. I am not the one who installed it and I don't know the specifics. I consistently use both systems and never had a problem.
The other day I turned on ubuntu and there was a similar message as here fsck error on boot: /dev/sda6: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY so after reading some comments I ran fsck /dev/sda8
It ran ok, there were no other issues, but then when I booted again Ubuntu didn't work. At first it got stuck and didn't recognize any input from keyboard/trackpad etc, so I booted again and it seemed ok, however I can't do anything on it: I can only access some text files, and open R studio, but if I run codes or even type it gives errors, I can't open chrome and most other programs, and it seed my USB stick but tells me I can't open it because it's read-only.
Windows is running fine, I'm using it rn, but of course I can't access any linux data.
Does anyone have a clue about what might have happened? I am not tech savvy so I'm sorry if I'm missing important details, pls let me know if I should add something!
Edit to add: meanwhile, is there a way for me to access the files I have on ubuntu? For instance making a back up from recovery mode or accessing them from windows
